Many artists express the need to paint, draw or create every day because they love it and feel driven. It is great to have that focus and energy. However, if I were to tell you that I want to create art every day and love the process of creating art, it wouldn’t be inaccurate. I actually dread it.

It is not that I don’t love art; it has engulfed me throughout life. I love the colors, the shapes, the moods, the museums, and all the amazing creations artists produce. It is just me. I run away from beginning the process. I agonize and panic throughout the process and, too often, the end result was not worth the beginning. When I end up with something I am happy with, I’m exhausted.

Art on a personal level does not define me. Rather, art is the thin thread of continuity in a life that has ebbed and flowed in many directions. I will say this though; I am no longer the disgruntled, never-satisfied artist. I have experienced joy. It is liberating, albeit challenging, to finally know the thrill of taking a vision and making it a reality. Sometimes, it is a simple attitude adjustment. Art is enriching, inspiring and fun. It is this satisfaction I share with you.

Why it took so long; I don’t know. But, to all who seek it, press on.
